Las Vegas, Nev. (June 27, 2008) – It’s a rare occasion to meet someone with Sokmaly
Prak’s dedication and skill set. Prak, an ITT student pursuing a degree in Computer
Networking Systems, leads by example.
As a recipient of the Imagine America Foundation’s 2008 LDRSHIP Award, Prak is
among six accomplished men and women to receive a $5,000 cash grant for distinguished
academic and military service. With sponsorship from Lockheed Martin, this award
recognizes Prak’s talent and will provide financial assistance toward completion of his
current career education.
As part of the annual Career College Association Convention and Exposition, the
Imagine America Foundation will host the 2008 LDRSHIP Awards at a sit-down
luncheon from noon to 2:15 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2008 at the Las Vegas, Nev.,
Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. The Imagine America Foundation is the research and
scholarship-providing arm of the career college sector.
In addition to Prak’s 3.94 GPA and 100% attendance rate at ITT, his outstanding military
service includes the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global
War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Korea Defense Service Medal, among others.
These honors embody exactly what the LDRSHIP Award represents: Loyalty, Duty,
Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage.
“Sokmaly Prak is not just an inspiration to his fellow students, but to the faculty and staff
as well,” said Jude Nix, Director, ITT Technical Institute, King of Prussia, Pa. “In 25
short years of life, Sokmaly has served his country for three years in the armed forces.
After having done so, he immediately re-enlisted in the National Guard for an additional
three years. He is certainly no stranger to service and sacrifice. He continues to
demonstrate exemplary performance in all of his coursework. On June 18, we held our
quarterly student award ceremony. Mr. Prak was recently recognized for Highest Honors
and Perfect Attendance. Sokmaly is a humble and gentle spirit. I compliment the
committee on making an excellent selection in Sokmaly Prak.”
