Lockheed Martin helps students with military service records receive scholarships

Lockheed Martin’s Craig Quigley, and Retired Army General Barry McCafferty present Philip Cook with the 2006 LDRSHIP Award.

Scholarships provide prospective students with the financial freedom to pursue their educations, and Lockheed Martin, an advanced technology company, is helping make those aspirations possible for students with military service records.

Lockheed Martin provides financial assistance to military veterans, including young men and women returning from military service in Iraq and Afghanistan, by its support of the Imagine America Foundation's LDRSHIP award. Applicants include reservist, honorably discharged, retired or active duty military personnel attending career colleges. Students are eligible to receive as much as $5,000 toward their current career college education. They must also maintain a 3.5 grade point average and a 95 percent attendance record. The acronym LDRSHIP stands for loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage.

Lockheed Martin Corporation, a vital sponsor of the Foundation's LDRSHIP Award since 2004, employs about 140,000 people worldwide (over 30,000 of its current employees are former military personnel) and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacturing and integration of advanced technology systems, products and services. As a lead systems integrator and information technology company, the majority of Lockheed Martin's business is with the U.S. Department of Defense and other U.S. federal government agencies. In fact, Lockheed Martin is the largest provider of IT services, systems integration and training to the U.S. government. The remaining portion of Lockheed Martin's business is comprised of international government and commercial sales of products, services and platforms.

With 939 facilities in 457 cities and 45 states throughout the U.S. and business locations in 56 nations and territories, Lockheed Martin is ranked as one of the top five best places to launch a career. Lockheed Martin is also one of the nation's top employers of engineering graduates. Driven by innovation and integrity, Lockheed Martin continues to help students accomplish their biggest dreams through their support of programs like the LDRSHIP Award.
